Where you'll be sleeping at Lewis Reunion

Here's a map of the Little Bear River Resort illustrating the sleeping accommodations for everyone. Thanks to the majority of you for your willingness to sleep in tents.

The 10-day weather forecast projects sun, sun, sun...so many of you may want to bag the tent and sleep under the stars. It should be a fun adventure!

How to get to the 2008 Lewis Reunion site

UPDATE: Please note that Mt. Sterling Road is called 6800 South and is one of the first paved roads as you come out of Sardine Canyon. (We'll try to put up balloons or something.)

Also note that if you get directions via Google Maps, it will take you over some treacherous dirt roads before Sardine Canyon. You're better off going through Sardine Canyon and sticking with the mapped directions below.

Here's a map that's also available as a satellite photo at this website: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=41.593621,-111.868973&spn=0.081522,0.142651&t=h&z=13

Don't forget, access from the north is limited except through Pocatello via Preston.

Hope this helps!

Reunion Demographics: Can you say "33 in diapers"!?!

Houston, we've got a problem.

As we took another look at our family's shifting (can you say upside down?) demographics we have made the startling discovery about those coming to the reunion. There will be:
53 adults
16 teens
9 ages 8-11
17 ages 4-7
19 ages 18m - 3
14 under 18 mos

Yes, that's...
...59 children age 11 and under
...43 children of Primary age and
...33 children in diapers!!

We're not worried about having enough food, but will there be enough room in the dumpster for all the diapers?! :)

It means we're going to need everyone's help in assisting young parents, keeping an eye on little ones so they don't wander off and taking a turn with the children's classes on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.

You'll remember in an earlier posting that we assigned different family members to serve as "coordinators" for three different children's classes:
  • 18m-3 years of age (19 total)
  • 4-7 years of age (17 total)
  • 8-11 years of age (9 total)
Now that we know the numbers for each age group, we realize the task is just too big for one coordinator for each group. So we will be assigning more adults to help with these classes. Watch for the list on tomorrow's blog posting.

The important thing is that we need to give some direction to the "coordinators" who are already assigned.

As coordinators of children's classes we ask that you come prepared with ideas and/or materials on how you're going to keep your children's group occupied and having fun. We will assign other adults to help you, but you are responsible to plan what your group will do during your assigned 45-minute period.
Some ideas of what you can do might include:
  • Story time
  • Singing
  • Outdoor games (lots of lawn area)
  • Coloring or crafts
  • etc.
You may have noticed in the coordinator assignments made in an earlier posting that most of the coordinators are young dads or teenagers. Will you mothers help us by posting comments on this blog with ideas for the coordinators?

[EDITOR'S UPDATE: We're already starting to get some great comments from young mothers. Please visit the Comments section of this blog entry. Thank you, Moms, keep'em coming and please help your husbands come prepared!]

And please watch for more assignments on tomorrow's blog posting.

What You Need to Know About Our Reunion Site

Here are some key facts about our reunion site that may help you in your planning for the 2008 Lewis Reunion:

How to get there
There are two ways to get to the Little Bear River Resort. Most of you'll remember the shortcut you took several years ago for our reunion at the nearby Paradise Springs campground.

Coming from the south to Cache Valley
Take I-15 north. Take Exit 362 to Logan. It comes right after the Willard Bay exit and a rest stop. Exit onto Hwy 89 and go past Brigham City and Manatua and through Sardine Canyon.

Shortcut
Just as you come out of Sardine Canyon and enter Cache Valley on Hwy 89 watch for a road that goes off to the right called Mt Sterling Road (6800 South). Follow it to 2400 West, turn right (going south) up the hill. It becomes a dirt road and is now Mt Pisgah or Baxter Hallow Road. Stay on it until you cross the Little Bear River. The entrance to the reunion site is immediately to your left.

Sure Way
The longer, all-pavement way to the Little Bear River Resort: Take US-89 into Cache Valley. Turn right (east) on SR-101. Follow it til you come to 400 West, turn right (south) to Main Street. Turn left on Main and go to SR-65 (a main highway). Turn right (south) on SR-65 toward Paradise. Just as you enter Paradise you will see a welcome sign. Turn right at the first street (8700 South) past the welcome sign. Go west til you come to the sign on the second white fence that reads: "The Little Bear River Resort." Turn right into the resort entrance.

Beware: Road Closed
If you're coming from the north, it won't be easy to get to Logan. Apparently, there is extensive construction on Hwy 30, which is the main connector between Tremonton & I-15 with Cache Valley. So check state highway websites for availability if you're coming from the north.

Facilities
The lodge has many amenities that will make our reunion a pleasant experience. For instance:
• 92 folding chairs (bring camp chairs, if you can; but we'll have plenty regardless)
• 10 round tables and 6 banquet tables
• 9 picnic tables
• Piano
• Carpet throughout
• 2 couches
• Air conditioning
• Lots of electrical outlets (we'll have extension cords)
• Nice covered front porch ideal for outdoor classroom
• Wireless internet access (we're trying to confirm this, but we believe it's true)
• Cell phone coverage (we think; we'll let you know for sure)

Some of the fun features nearby:
• Fire pit with amphitheater seating
• Sandbox for the children (bring your own toys)
• Rope swing
• Porch swing
• Horseshoe pit
• Volleyball
• River/stream...a wet winter and spring may make this more a river, but we're planning for everyone to be able to swim or tube

Weather
• Highs are typically in the high 80s
• Lows are usually in the 50s...so come prepared

More details are coming as to what you should bring to the reunion. But hopefully the above will give you a feel for what to expect.
